Free laptops for all high school students

All Bluewater District School Board students in grades 9 through 12 began receiving laptops Feb. 14 as part of a program to support online learning, increase technology among families, and meet new online high school credit requirements.

All new Grade 9 students will receive laptops when they start high school in September, according to a Feb. 10 news release from the school board which said the importance of technology for learning has increased dramatically , compounded by the Department of Education’s requirement that high school students earn two credits online for

“Quality laptops, such as those provided to Bluewater, will dramatically improve our students’ ability to work and learn in a digital world,” said Keith Lefebvre, superintendent of education responsible for student success in the communicated.
“Many post-secondary education and career opportunities require students to have the technology skills learned through managing a personal device. Working through learning platforms… will give our high school students an edge in the future.

Current students in grades 9 through 11 were asked to be patient as school staff began distributing laptops throughout the district.
