Brussels (VNA) – The French Community of Belgium (Federation Wallonia-Brussels), with its expertise and experience in education and training, wishes to favor collaboration with Vietnamese partners and universities in the teaching of the French language in the service tourist activities – a promising area of ​​cooperation, said the Prime Minister of the community Pierre-Yves Jeholet.

Jeholet noted that, as Vietnam put it COVID-19[feminine] well controlled, the country has welcomed a large number of tourists, 40% of whom speak French.

He said the community’s partnership with Vietnam has grown despite the impacts of COVID-19, with the community just marking 25 years in Hanoi.

Over the past 25 years, the ties have flourished in all aspects, he said, pointing out that today, more than ever, for the French Community of Belgium, Vietnam has always been a priority partner in all areas ranging from health, culture, society, to academic and economic cooperation as well as the promotion of the French language because Vietnam is a member of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).

He said that in the middle of next month, he will pay a visit to Vietnam to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in many fields, especially education and scientific research, and discuss the results of bilateral cooperation over the past 25 last years.

Vietnam and the French Community of Belgium established their relations in 1993. In 1996, the office of the Wallonia-Brussels delegation was established in Hanoi.

The 783 joint projects between the two sides have produced fruitful results, he said, adding that 805 Vietnamese students have received scholarships and 2,000 experts have been exchanged.


The bilateral partnership focused on areas such as health care, the environment, new technologies, tertiary education, scientific research, culture and the promotion of the French language. Wallonia-Brussels has largely contributed to the development of the network of family doctors in most of the Vietnamthese localities./.
