Gujarat State Board Examinations for Grades 10, 12 start today; almost 15 lakh students appear
Nearly 9.64 lakh students across the state turned up for their Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) Class 10 exams which started on Monday. The first language exam started at 10 a.m. and will end at 1:15 p.m.
More than 4.25 lakh students in the general stream of class 12 also appeared for their exams on Monday morning. Similarly, more than 1.08 lakh students will appear for the Class 12 science stream exams which start at 3 p.m.
The state Board of Education did not hold exams during the 2020-21 academic year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The last time board exams were held offline was in March 2020.
As many as 9,64,529 students had registered for Class 10 exams at 958 centers, while 4,25,834 candidates registered
registered for the class 12 general examination in 527 centres. A total of 1,08,069 candidates also registered for the Class 12 Science Stream exam across 140 centers.
Thus, a total of 14,98,430 candidates will appear for the examinations of the jury. All 1,625 exam centers have been equipped with CCTV cameras to prevent irregularities, the government said.
Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani earlier announced that 30% of the questions in the exam will be objective type, in a bid to reduce anxiety for students taking exams after a year of testing. gap amid the constraints posed by the pandemic. Previously, 20% of questions were objective.
The government has also planned to expand the services of the Jeevan Astha helpline set up by the police to relieve students and parents of stress before and during exams.
District administration officials had also been instructed to organize buses for students coming from inland areas of the state. The state government has also warned of strict measures against those who spread “false rumors of leaking paper at examination centers”.
