Gvmc Facelift for 40 public schools under Citiis Prog | Visakhapatnam News

Visakhapatnam: the largest Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is giving a facelift to 40 municipal schools in Visakhapatnam under the CITIIS (city investments to innovate, integrate and support), said GVMC curator G Lakshmisha.
The Commissioner participated in a review meeting led by the Joint Secretary and Mission Director, Smart Cities Mission, Kunal Kumarin virtual mode.
Explaining the progress of the project, Lakshmisha said that the tender process has been completed for the development of 10 schools, while work has started on the primary school at HB Colony. “Tenders will be launched soon for the remaining schools,” Lakshmisha said.
The GVMC secured 52 crore (80% of the total project funding) for this project from the French Development Agency under the CITIIS Challenge which was conducted in 2018-19.
The main objective of the challenge is to replicate the initiatives taken as part of the smart city project outside the ABD (Area Based Development) part of the city. The Agency will provide maximum funding of 80 crores for each selected project or 80% of the project cost. Of the three shortlisted projects from GVMC, this smart campus project was selected for final funding.
The project aims to modernize public schools as smart campuses by upgrading GVMC schools to create the modern infrastructure.
Chief Engineer GVMC P Ravi Krishna Raju, Executive Engineer V Sudhakar and others were present.
