New principals hired for Holland High School, Jefferson Elementary

HOLLAND — Two Dutch public school buildings officially have new leaders after the school board approved a handful of administrative hires this week.

During a study session on Monday, June 13, the HPS Board of Education approved five administrative hires, including new principals at Jefferson Elementary and Holland High. Deputy directors of Jefferson and Holland Middle were also approved, as was a new deputy chief financial officer.

Andrea Mehall will be the new principal of Holland High School for the 2022-23 school year. She came to HPS in 2014 and has since been Principal of Holland Early College. His previous roles include teaching science, human biology/anatomy and physiology.

Mehall succeeds Katie Pennington, who moved into the role of associate superintendent of human resources this month.

Sara Folkert is hired as the new principal of Jefferson Elementary. She comes to Holland from Baseline Middle School in South Haven, where she is an assistant principal.

Folkert taught math, science, and language arts in third grade, elementary, and middle school. She was also a gifted and talented intervention coordinator and coordinator.

Students arrive at Jefferson Elementary School for the first day of the 2021-22 school year.  The building will have a new principal, Sara Folkert, for the 2022-23 school year.

Rakendra Davis, a current HPS teacher, will take on a vice-principal position at Holland Middle School. Davis has 12 years of teaching experience in Florida, South Carolina and Michigan, including the last five at HPS.

She has also taken on leadership roles as District School Improvement Chair and a role on the PBIS team.

The Holland Public Schools Board of Education approved several administrative hires at a review meeting on Monday, June 13.

Another HPS teacher will fill the position of assistant principal at Jefferson. Jennifer Heinritz has been teaching in the Netherlands since 2005, the last six as a first grade teacher. Heinritz has also held various leadership positions in the district, including chair of school improvement, chair of PBIS, and ESL speaker and coach.

Tyler Weavers has been hired as the district’s new assistant chief financial officer. He served two years as a budget and audit analyst for Ottawa County and was previously an accounting supervisor at Ottawa West Public Schools.
